How to Find Your Rising Sign
Rising (Ascendant) needs a birth time and place. Here is how to look it up and what AuraLoom does when the time is unknown.
Your rising sign (Ascendant) is the zodiac sign that was on the eastern horizon at the moment and place you were born. It is not your Sun sign. It changes roughly every two hours, so a date alone is not enough.
What you need
- Birth time as recorded — hour and minute, not “morning.”
- Birth place — city is enough for a public calculator; we use a local city list, not a live maps API.
- A Western tropical calculation. AuraLoom defaults to Placidus houses.
If the time is unknown, AuraLoom still calculates Sun, Moon, and the planet table, and skips Rising, houses, and timing modules. That is the honest limit, not a guessed 12:00 chart.
Where the time usually lives
- The birth certificate or hospital record
- A family member who wrote the hour down
- A later official copy — still better than inventing noon
Cusps depend on the year and the exact minute. Do not pick a Rising from a date-range graphic.
