What Is a Natal Chart?

A natal chart is a sky snapshot at birth — Sun, Moon, Rising, planets, and houses. How it differs from a sun-sign horoscope.

A natal chart is a map of the sky at your first breath: date, time, and place. “Natal” just means birth. People also say “nativity.” It is the same object as a calculated Western chart — not a personality quiz and not a daily sun-sign column.

What sits on the map

  • Sun — core style and vitality
  • Moon — emotional weather (needs a reasonably accurate day; time still helps)
  • Rising — the sign on the eastern horizon (needs time)
  • Planets — Mercury through Pluto in sign and degree
  • Houses — twelve life rooms; AuraLoom defaults to Placidus, with Whole Sign and Equal on the form

A guest preview on AuraLoom shows Sun, Moon, Rising, and the planet table with degrees. Full-report modules (houses, aspects, themed chapters) unlock with Premium.

Natal chart vs horoscope

A daily horoscope speaks to everyone with that Sun sign. A natal chart is one person’s placements. Two Leos can share a headline and still have different Moons, Risings, and houses.

Start the calculation on the chart form. If time is unknown, Rising and houses stay closed — see Methodology.
